What is a media campaign you might ask?
A media campaign is a series of planned advertisements (e.g., social media, television, newspapers etc) that are all linked to help achieve a desired aim.
What did channel 4’s media campaign consist of?
How successful was the campaign?
When it launched on September the 23rd 2016 the #humans became trending on Twitter showing people were interacting and responding to their media campaign. This was also shown by the fact they had 3.4 million people watch tune in to watch the first show of season two when it launched. The reason this media campaign worked so well was because it blurred the lines between reality and fiction as it made the audience feel like they were a part of the TV show and it made them excited to watch the show and see what happens.
Key points to include when creating your own media campaign:
- Think about where your target audience are most likely to see advertisements- is it on social media, newspapers, billboards etc
- Choose several different media platforms
- Make sure all parts of the media campaign link with each other- create one theme for all advertisements so people know they are part of the same media campaign by the way it looks and the message.
- Make sure the media campaign is engageable for the audience, so they are more likely to remember the message and get involved. - a call to action
- Know when to stop don’t drag out the media campaign as it will then become boring for the target audience if they don’t get their end goal soon enough.
